Carbon Neutral Fuel

Environmental Effects of Vegie Fuel

The use of vegetable oil (WVO, SVO, UCO) as fuel is carbon positive, this means that more carbon is locked up into the soil from growing the oil plant than released into the atmosphere by burning it.  I can tell you that it is a great feeling driving down the freeway, knowing that you’re not contributing to the environmental problem.

While Biodiesel is often made from Waste Vegetable Oil, much of the commercial Biodiesel is being made from rendered animal fat or fresh canola oil grown specifically for the purpose.  Biodiesel also uses up to 20% Methanol in it’s production which is produced from fossil fuels.

Ethanol is produced from products that are generally especially grown for the purpose and can only be used blended in small quantities with petroleum fuel in most vehicles, while Hydrogen requires huge amounts of energy for it’s production.

I believe that Waste Chip Oil (WVO, SVO, UCO) is the most environmentally conscious motor vehicle fuel available today as it is the only renewable fuel that has already used it’s embodied energy, and contains no fossil fuel in it’s production as a fuel source.

Vegetable Oil Fuel isn’t perfect, it still releases greenhouse gasses to the atmosphere, but it is a step in the right direction as a fuel to use with our current transport technology.
