There are no dodgy secret diesel ingredients or ongoing consumables. The system works by heating the fuel before the injector pump, so that the fuel is thin and lubricates the pump properly. It is then heated again before the injectors to be sure that the fuel will atomize properly, offering a clean burn so that there is no carbon deposits left in the cylinder or blocking the injectors.
The most common ways to operate on vegetable oil are to either convert the fuel to Biodiesel by way of a chemical reaction, or to install an elaborate conversion system to allow you to start on diesel fuel before switching over to vegetable oil typically taking at least two days to install by somebody with mechanical expertise.
